Summit Speaker Dr. Vivek Murthy Named Nation’s Top Doctor
The Washington Post is reporting that President-elect Joe Biden has named Vivek H. Murthy, MD, to serve as America’s top doctor. In an interview at the recent Global Wellness Summit with Dr. Richard Carmona, the 17th US Surgeon General, Dr. Murthy spoke on the importance of addressing loneliness on a personal level, in the workplace, in communities and society.
Dr. Murthy is the author of New York Times bestseller, “Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World.”
Although the decision has not been officially announced, the former U.S. surgeon general has been asked to reprise his role in an expanded version in the new administration.
Dr. Murthy may also receive a White House title, beyond his surgeon general position, to signify that he is a central member of the team battling the pandemic, according to a person familiar with the matter.
