Shai Efrati, MD
Director, Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Research at Shamir Medical Center; Professor at Sackler School of Medicine and the Sagol School of Neuroscience of Tel Aviv University, Israel
Under Professor Efrati, The Shamir (Assaf-Harofeh) Medical Center has become one of the largest hyperbaric centers worldwide, treating more than 300 patients per day. Dr. Efrati’s research program focuses on neuroplasticity (regeneration of damaged brain tissue). The insights gained by looking at the regenerative capacity of the Hyperoxic-Hypoxic paradox demonstrate that neurons and blood vessels in the brain can be regenerated and cognitive, cardiac, and physical functions improved—and the biology at the cellular level can be reversed.
