Shark Tank of Wellness Student Competition Winner Announced
Kudos to Savannah College of Art and Design student Krysta Mendes Silva, who was awarded first place honors in the fifth annual Shark Tank of Wellness student competition. Silva won for her Samii concept – portable, rechargeable utensils that detect and alert users of allergenic proteins in food. She received the $5,000 award at the 2020 Global Wellness Summit.
Balazs Csatlos, from Hungary’s University of Pannonia, took second place ($3,000) for the Sleeping Beauty sleep mask, a high-tech solution for getting a good night’s sleep. Liam James Campbell, also from GA’s Savannah College of Art and Design, was the third place winner (US$2,000) for Melo, a sleep-enhancing pregnancy pillow.
Silva, along with other finalists, presented her concept to a panel of Wellness Sharks, including: Karen Campbell, business development consultant at Thai wellness destination Chiva-Som, Frank Pitsikalis, founder and CEO of spa and resort management software company, ResortSuite, and Julia Sutton, COO of Exhale Enterprises (Exhale Spa brand). The three students were selected from a global pool of 121 submissions, spanning 36 countries. All finalists also had the opportunity to meet with wellness leaders at the historic Summit, which is the leading conference on the business of wellness. Read more in this Spa Business article.
